do i want my kids on drugs? of course not. but why waste tax dollars putting a junkie in jail when he should be going through rehab and getting his life straightened out. mandatory minimum sentencing is not the way to go. we should have needle exchange programs all across the nation. you cant stop people from doing drugs but you can make sure they are being safe. you can convince a horny teenager not to have sex, their mind is already made up, but you can give them a condom and educate them on safe sex. it just seems like 3 billion a year to fight something thats already here seems silly. we should be cleaning up our own country before we try to fix other countries.

Because nobody likes to talk about a war that they lost over and over and over again. Speaking of losing wars multiple times, "Mission Accomplished' notwithstanding, we are wasting billions of dollars in Iraq as well. It just seems our government needs something to waste its money on. God forbid we should spend those billions on helping the poor, undereducated, and needy. That would make us a bunch of commies. Can't have that.

Unfortunately the problem with politics is that politicians like to get behind 'sexy' causes that makes them popular with the majority of the voters which a war of drugs is not, they like to pretend it is not happening.

The war on drugs, as in England is a loosing battle until we acknowledge that the methods we are currently using are ineffective and are not reducing the problem.

For example cannabis in the UK is a Class C drug, the problem that no one acknowledges is it is 25 times stronger that what was around 20 years ago. It was thought downgrading the classification would be a vote winner (it has failed and not helped)

It is to do with winning votes and nothing to do with running a country effectively.

Because you can't win a war on drugs or even make headway in 4 years. There is no money to spend on a war on drugs anyway and certainly no money to spend on preventive measures that would fight drug use in the long term.

because its a total loser no one is winning a war on drugs. Make buying sudafed illegal and the mexicans import more raw materials and more is shipped across our extensive border. They jail so many minor drug offenders its becoming a real problem that just like the current ARM mortgage issue will eventually cause huge problems.

Yeah, it is ridiculous. They won't because it isn't politically correct to be pro-drugs. The war on drugs is a waste of time and money, plus it has destroyed so many people's lives.

Why do we kill two million perfectly good dogs every year? Two billions dollars, a drop in the bucket, would take care of them. We spend six billion dollars on barbeque sauce.
