I have been hairdressing over 16 years ,started when i was young ,i know that i need to look out for shop and all of that i just need advice on having the push to go for it ,any tips ?

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Start Your Own Hair Salon and Day Spa by Eileen Figure Sandlin
* 101 Media and Marketing Tips for Salon Owners, Stylists and Managers by Nanette Miner
* Successful Salon Management, 5E by Edward Tezak
* Beyond Beauty: Cosmetology Business Information and Resources by Janie Buchanan

One of the best, most fun and most practical books I can recommend is The Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki. I read it after I built and sold my first business, and I wished I read it before!

Another great, if odd, book was Rich Dad's Guide to Investing- I literally used the B-I triangle in the Building a Business section to build my business!

The best place to start would be looking for an entrepreneurship resource center in your area or to take a short entrepreneurial course. It may seem like an extra hassle but it will really pay off!
