Here's your first problem: 1993? Second problem: Nissan? (Japanese in general)
Seriously, I think it might be the electromotor. I've had a similar problem with a '96 Buick Roadmaster. I've replaced the electromotor myself (it would've cost $400 at the auto place) and it works like magic.

If it wasn't the starter before you changed out the battery, it is unlikely to be so now. Something wrong with the battery install. Perhaps it is not getting a charge from the altenator. Easy check, have someone stand in front of car. Turn on headlights. Now turn the key? Do the lights go out? Battery is low.

Remove the battery cables, clean the terminals and reconnect them. You may need to have your battery charged too while the cables are disconnected if the battery voltage is less than 12.5 Volts. Battery chargers are inexpensive. Once you've done that and the engine starts and runs, measure the charging voltage across the battery terminals and if it isn't more than 13.5 Volts, you may need a new alternator. The old battery may have overloaded the alternator when it went bad. Use a Digital Multi-Meter (DMM) to measure the voltages. Sears sells them for $15.

Early Maxima's were bad for the earth cable near the bell housing on't gearbox losing it's ground. Remove cable and clean up end and re-attach, they are also bad for starters, just imagine trying to turn the engine over soo many times and being where it's situated the heat affects it and helps shorten it's life too.
Hope this helps.

If you have a new battery then it is probably the starter. Sometimes you can free it up by tapping on it with a hammer while someone turns the key.
