a person shouldn't be held responsible, but we always are. how do people see germans? nazis! british? imperialists! americans? careless, know-nothing slobs!
it's not that people consciously judge people by their government; it just happens.

Hmm, cutting off the head to cure the headache.
As much as terrorists would like to believe that the voters are responsible for government etc.... only in America could a candidate recieve more votes an still come second.
I believe what your seeing is a miss enformed backlash to a common stereotype of ignorance.
However, in the twenty or so years they've been top of the pile can anyone quantify the length of time to repair the dammage?
Point is, were easy targets if the indiference of good men pertains to ignore or change things for the better.
We should all fear evil men, but there is one thing we must fear more than that, an thats THE INDIFFERENCE OF GOOD MEN.
As long as it continues WE are guilty by association.

Wonderful question.
I've often wondered, even when I was a kid during the Vietnam conflict, if there wasn't someone just like me over in *insert country here* who felt the same things I felt about the current leaders of the country; helpless, really, to stop the unnecessary violence. And being hated by everyone in the opposing country, just for living where I live.
That kind of thought process, (the "blanket hate", I call it) really does exist. I have an elderly aunt who is still mad as he!! about Pearl Harbor, believe it or not, and prejudiced against anyone of Japanese descent. It's sad, and scary.

.most countries and nations have now a democratically elected government - it is up to the people to vote in a government that will act on the best interest of its people.
Today war is seen as irresponsible, and for a public that votes in a government that has shown itself in the past that war is the answer to problems that may have been resolved by other means, means that the public as a nation, maybe not individually, should feel a certain amount of guilt

Politicians are representative of the population? Not in the Uk they're not, and I would guess that applies in America too.
Now, I do not know many Americans personally. but on a writers site that I belong to I correspond with quite a few, and I have found 98% of them to be nice, thoughtful, friendly and considerate. The other 2% are almost as obnoxious as me.
Politicians gave up representing their constituents years ago in order to vote with their concience. Can you blame the elcorate for that too?

I do not think that we can be responsible for the actions of your countries or ancestors past. If it was not us carrying out these actions then we are not at fault. The slave trade question is in the news at the moment, but my view is that if you met a German person would you want them to apologise for the World Wars? Or as an English person should we apologise to people we meet from countries which we have been at war with? I do not think so.
What happened in the past is not our fault, but it has made society what it is today so who knows where we would be if the slave trade never happened?

The reason might be that some nations are held responsible for their acts while some others...
sets them and then trespasses them... What is that for an attitude ? Where is the fair and equal treatment ? Is there any inch of christianity and sense of justice left somewhere ?

I have heard many times that many Americans still dislike the British for the War of Independance and everything before it.
As a wise man once said, take the plank out of your own eye before you attemt toremove the splinter from someone elses.
