From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
Former Majority Leader Howard Baker (R) confirms he has been calling GOP friends to drum up support for his old Watergate committee protégé Fred Thompson -- to run for president. Thompson, one of John McCain's original supporters in 2000, has not disavowed the effort.
Baker says Thompson has told him the drawback is that he has two small children -- but Baker will continue trying to build support for Thompson until the former senator tells him to stop. Which he hasn't. Baker told me: "I called him up -- and said I'm going to plant the seed that you ought to run for president. He told me that he has two small children at home. But I'm going to keep sending up balloons until he tells me not to, and he hasn't."
Why would Baker -- a former McCain supporter -- try to launch Thompson -- another former McCain supporter? Are they dissatisfied with McCain's candidacy? Baker wouldn't bite: "The reason to do it is Fred's a capable person and a longtime friend who would be a good president."
Baker added that McCain called him about his endorsement, but Baker told him he's not ready to endorse anyone yet. Baker has known McCain since the Arizona senator was a returned POW and Navy aide assigned to the Senate. But Baker's wife, former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker, is supporting McCain, an old friend.

The guy is pretty charp, made his fame by prosecuting corrupt democrat politicians. I have followed him over the years after seeing him on some committee and he certainly knows the ins and outs of politics. Besides look at the others running, Fred is a far site better than most and besides I am not going to get the nomination so what the heck.

Thompson is doing what he continuously did as a senator.... wait and wait and wait till its too late to do something. If he's going to be the subsequent president then he extra advantageous start up campaigning and debating... jointly as he waits the GOP donors are sending their funds to truly valid applicants. those donors heavily isn't spending so lots extra on yet another candidate. you will desire to compete with your widespread warring parties with funds... then in case you win the widespread you extra advantageous nevertheless have funds to conflict the different occasion's candidate. The longer you wait the donations get smaller and smaller. This has been a situation with Thompson... he's very sluggish. he's clever yet sluggish and that may not a time to be sluggish.

I doubt it. As a Senator he proved to be much too serious and results-oriented for that august body. He bailed once he realized that the majority of his fellow Senators were more interested in appearing before the cameras while pontificating about one minor point or another.
I'd be very surprised if Thompson wanted to get back into the pool with all those morons. I think the man is just too smart to put himself through that again.
BTW, your asides show a distinct lack of ability to distinguish between issues of substance and issues of import to people who spend a good deal of their time following the antics of celebrities.

Of all the politicians running for president of both parties, Thompson would be the Best for the Country.
The only politician to be better than Thompson would be Democrat Zell Miller.
WHAT A TEAM THOMPSON & MILLER WOULD MAKE!!!!!!
