It depends on the situation I'm in , i try to be polite but if that doesn't work then i demand .

i ask politely, and if i have to ask more than 2 or 3 times, then i start making demands..... my patience only stretches so far !

All the time.... asking politely is usually a waste of time. I "demand" that I am listened to so there is no misunderstanding, later.
It's really very clever if you think about it. ;-)
