RASCAL FLATTS LYRICS

"Bless The Broken Road"

I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

Now I'm just rolling home
Into my lover's arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you.

It's kind of like one of those I'll-write-this-song-because-of-my-feelings-right-now songs where a songwriter is just going through some emotions and makes a song out of it. They don't do well in the long run and I honestly can't see how this song became really popular as a major songwriter myself.

The song is clearly inspired by some event or chain of them and a more distinct reference to them in the song would have helped it a lot. If you put lyrics in a song that say why you're writing the song it makes for a much better song in the end and it'll go a lot better. If you leave out your reason for writing the song it won't do as well as it could have and you'll be left with unfulfilled potential.

But the lyrics actually fit the music parts really well for this song. The slower time signature and sadder-sounding scale all contribute to the lyrics and really ended up saving this song when it comes to the radio and how much airtime it gets. It's also kind of like a -be-warned kind of song where the songwriter says "If you do the same thing that I did you'll get messed up in the end." I honestly think we need more songs with that sort of moral to the ending message but not too many obviously.

AHHH!!! I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!!!
i interpret it two ways: A love song, and a Christian Song.
love: about a guy who loves this girl so much, and is thrilled to have her, where everyother girl hasn't worked out.

christian song: this verse especially:
I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

LOVE LOVE LOVE THAT SONG
