By researching the prospect of starting your own business -- what it entails, what you need to know, helpful hints, etc -- you'll feel better prepared to take that plunge.

I found some book titles that are relevant to your specific question:

* Generation, Inc: The 100 Best Businesses for Young Entrepreneurs by Elina Furman, Leah Furman
* The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business (Completely Revised and Updated) by Steve Mariotti
* The Young Entrepreneur's Edge: Using Your Ambition, Independence, and Youth to Launch a Successful Business (Princeton Review Series) by Jennifer Kushell
* Upstart Start-Ups!: How 34 Young Entrepreneurs Overcame Youth, Inexperience, and Lack of Money to Create Thriving Businesses by Ron Lieber

I also posted some article links in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

It is very important to do something you enjoy. The craft market in your home town might be small, so I would suggest starting a craft website. That way you have a worldwide customer base. Remember, this is a business, so your best bet is to stay away from the free web sites. Yahoo has some great templates you can use, it's only around $20 a month for them to host your site. Do some searches on the internet to see what kind of competition you will be facing. If you don't feel like you can compete with some of the other craft websites make a list of all your hobbies and choose something else. Or maybe think of a problem that you encounter in your daily life and try and market a solution. The possibilities are endless. I would be happy to answer any specific questions you have. Just send me a message.

Doing something that you really enjoy is key! If crafts is what you love then give it a shot. Right now would be the perfect time with all the craft shows and markets starting up. Check out prices for tables to see if it will be worth your time. Lots of schools do craft fairs as well as community halls. I know some around here only charge $10 for a table but they do go up to $50+.

Whatever it is you decide to do make sure you calculate your materials and time into the equation to determine what you will need to charge to make money at this. Be careful not to over charge or you will just end up sitting on your product and not selling anything.

If you are looking for idea's on different things you can make do some searches on the Internet. There are TONS of free instruction pages for all kinds of different crafts. There are also sites that will walk you through how to price out your product and suggest ways to market it.

You may even want to give eBay a try.

Hope this helps :)

If you are a minor, I would suggest the first thing you do is talk to your parents. Have them help you with getting set up. Do not start any business venture without a parents knowledge.

Next, you will have to find something that you enjoy, your passion. The more you enjoy what you are doing, the better you will work it.

Do your research, talk to the locals that you have contact with everyday. Find out what the demand is in your area. All things to take into consideration before you spend money for materials and such.

Hope this helps!
