Sounds like the problem could be the switch itself. When You press it, it closes the connection ok, but then springs back and opens it again when released. Might need a new switch.

I experienced this once.
For some reason opening the case stopped the problem.

I never really solved why, but this really did work. I can only guess that it has something to do with air circulation. it was a fairly old machine and no doubt everything was clogged with dust.

My best guess is overheating of CPU or MB.
You'd better check your fan and also check temperature settings at the BIOS setup.
