No evidence at all that it has been useful. Better to get your GP to put you in touch with the local CAT. Community addiction team.

i suppose it might work for one out of every million or so...

but i wouldn't consider it likely to work by any stretch...

having been involved professionally and personally in the field and at home with treatment of alcoholism, i can attest that the only way of quitting that has repeated success is quitting with the help of a medical professional (in a detox).

also, i should HOPE that hypnosis wouldnt work in some cases, because if you stop cold turkey from a serious drinking problem with no medical attention, you could die from the withdrawal.
alcohol is one of the only two chemicals from which one can die from withdrawals (benzodiazopines are the other sort of drug)

It doesn't sound that farfetched, although it wouldn't be my first option to quit drinking. My uncle used to be a heavy smoker and he was cured by hypnotism. It gets to be very expensive, though; one session can cost anywhere from $25-$75, depending on who you see. The number of sessions depends on the progress you are making: if you are having difficulty quitting, there will be more sessions to go through. There are no negative side effects to meditation that I am aware of. It is a very relaxing experience even if you get nothing else out of it. Best of luck to you during your quitting process!

hypnosis can be helpful in the case of someone motivated to quit drinking, but it is not the be all end all cure. There is no cure for alcoholism, it is a genetic disease, all there is is treatment and control. If you have tried to stay sober before and failed, it is not likely hypnotism will help, but, if this is your first attempt at living clean and sober, a good therapist can use hypnosis to help you.

He will organise medical back up for you.
Nothing to be ashamed of your doctor will help.
Forget hypnosis.

No, honest to God, it doesn't work. Quitting is the best one.
