Why is it almost every time someone disagrees with an American policy, or challenges something in the media, there's always at LEAST one person who says "You know if you lived in [insert third-world country's title here] you could be killed/lynched/tortured, so you're lucky you live here, and we tolerate [insert uncalled for choice word] like you."
That's all good and well, but what's the point of having free speech if you're going to call me out on it everytime I utter something you feel is un-American?
Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone else has dealt with this kind of idiocy.

OKAY hang on-I'm an American, a proud American, so I'm not making a generalization from the outside. I was born and raised in the US of A. Thank you very much.

yeah. I write a lot of opinionated stuff and get that a lot. I wrote several articles criticizing a particular politician and this one girl who really liked this politician swore that she wanted to see me convicted for treason for what I wrote.

I think it's because America is getting so much criticism lately. Some Americans, I reiterate "some" get frustrated and are sensitive to world opinions. So they jump at anything that sounds like criticism.
I, on the other hand, am one of those people who could care less about world opinion. We live in the best country on earth, regardless of our internal problems.
Yes, I do respect the freedom of speech and use it quite a bit.
I realize we've got it made here in America. So, if you like America fine, if you don't, hey you can leave, or not come here or...

okay i partially agree. im american and i think that certain aspects of our country need to improve drastically!! but on the other hand you sound kind of ignorant by using such a broad generalization...have you met everyone in the united states? and by the way, while i think the idea of an american cultural supremacy is rediculous, you are extremely lucky to live here. if you educate yourself about the world around you, you might know that. its so fascinating when americans say they hate america (not you necessarily) - i think it needs improvement but i love the foundation and idea of freedom in our country - if you are ungrateful and dont recognize how easy you have it here..then we should drop your *** off in a third world country, lacking even the basic rights of equality. oh my how the tables would turn.

Well, most of us Americans are proud. When we see a question like, "what is wrong with Americans?"...it seems like someone is judging us based on a generalization. It's not okay to insult an entire nation of people, not that you are doing so in this question, but some people do. Of course we Americans are going to defend ourselves...wouldn't you?

Normally I find this when I deal with liberals. You see I am a conservative and do not believe everything I hear. I wish for proof and supporting evidence. Also, I try to be moral and true to my Christian beliefs but this is not always popular. Often times I am called a bigot, an idiot republican, etc. Normally my views differ from the media and I am not politically correct.

I hear-tell that Woopie Goldberg was very critical of America, until she spent some time in Africa. Not a peep since then.
I wonder what she learned?

Nope. And I personally have never 'called you out' on any comment. I believe you have the right to think what you think and voice it...but hopefully in a respectful manner. I don't have to agree with you, but I agree with your right to say it!
Don't 'lump' us all together, generalization isn't a useful think when you're making statements like this.
