"Birth control," in the broadest sense of the term, is any method used to prevent pregnancy. It can be as simple as not having sex (the best form for someone your age, btw). Beyond that, there are two main types of birth control: barrier and hormonal. Barrier methods prevent the sperm and egg from meeting. Probably the most well-known barrier method is the condom, but there are others, including cervical caps and diaphragms.

I suspect, however, that you're asking about the birth control pill, the most well-known type of hormonal birth control. What it is is a pill that a woman takes every day that has hormones in it that trick her body into thinking it's pregnant. In doing so, it prevents her from releasing an egg every month. No egg, no pregnancy. There are other reasons to take the pill, however. Regulating menstrual cycles is probably the biggest one, but it can also be used to help someone with bad acne and other hormone-related problems.

If you have more questions, don't be afraid to talk to your doctor or your school nurse or even your mom, if you feel comfortable doing that. It's good you're asking questions. Knowledge is power!

Birth control "tricks" your body into thinking it's already pregnant so if you have unprotected sex the chances are that you won't get pregnant.
Some women get pregnant no matter what. I know someone that has 4 children, she was on the pill when she got pregnant with all 4. So even though it says like 99% effective, you never know if you will be the 1% that will get pregnant.

birth control is most commonly a pill women take to stop them from ovulating. it tricks the body into thinking it is pregnant so no new eggs are produced. Women take them so they can have sex without the probability of getting pregnant. It isn't "foolproof" though. Why are you ask9ing that question here? Ask your Mom, sister or teacher or counselor. You can also look it up on the Internet.

Birth control can be anything like condoms, pills, diaphragms, the nuva ring, patch, etc. Birth control is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman becoming pregnant or giving birth.

Ask your mom or dad or doctor when you go see him/her.

To avoid getting pregnant until you are ready to. It is the sensible thing to do if you are sexually active and dont want children yet. I'm sure that there is tons of information available on this topic all over the internet. Do a Google or Dogpile search.

There are many different types. If you want to know in detail, look it up online. But basically it's somethign that's used to prevent a woman from getting pregnant. It's never 100% effective, except absinence (not having sex), but it's usually very preventative.

birth- control is usually a pill taken by a female to regulate their ovulation cycle. meaning it will also be more on time and instead of a surprise. it is also use to help prevent pregnacy, but it is not 100% effective. condoms and spermicide's must be also used.

my friends take birth control. what it does is, it makes u stop having your period...well it cuts it down to a couple days, that is why my friends take them. i dont know the technicalities, but by cutting down your period, it makes you less likely to get pregnant after sexual intercourse. so people take them for diff reasons, either so they wont have a kid after sex or so they dont have to deal with their period for so long. ask your doctors, studies are finding bad side effects of certain pills.
