We tend to believe what our parents believed and they believed what your grandparents believed. It's all on a subconscious level and is learned by the age of three, some say five. Kids have an innate talent for picking up unvoiced opinions and seeing the follow-through in action. It is considered a survival mechanism. Nearby tribes would raid other tribes and it was this survival technique of not trusting outsiders that kept you alive.
This is what makes it so hard to banish prejudice in our, or any, society. Cows don't mingle with horses, Dogs run in packs, birds fly in flocks, etc. I know these are different species but it's a similar concept: Like attracts like.
Yes, words can hurt, but actions can hurt even more. We are done with burning at the stake. We haven't had any lynchings lately. Now we are working with tolerance of sexual preferences. It's hard to be tolerant if we haven't been brought up to be tolerant. We all try to protect ourselves from harm and disease.
So, my opinion is that they were unfortunate in not having the upbringing they need to get along in society, but if they do not harm or injure another they are entitled to their opinions. They just shouldn't shove it down some ones throat. That is intimidation, and can be threatening in nature. I'm sure all of us have said something we have regretted later when intoxicated (I know I have).

Mel Gibson, under the influence of alcohol made a rude remark. They say people do and say stupid things when drunk, however, I think when drunk people really say what they always wanted to say when they are sober. So shame on Mel.
I really don't like racist remarks, but we are all human and do slip up at times. I think that people fear what they do not understand or do not want to understand. If someone does not look like you , act like you, dress like you or live the life that you do , society rebels against them it has been that way since the days of Moses. Hopefully this will all change and we can all live together as human beings.

It's a free country. Say what you want to say, believe what you want to believe it's your business. Just the people who say it had better only blame themselves when what they say comes back to haunt them.
Because Mel Gibson made anti semetic remarks, if tickets sales for his movies plunge because of that he better only blame himself. Same thing with the basketball player.
That Landscaper, if he didn't want to serve the custoemr because they were gay, FINE, that's his business. He'd better not point the finger at someone else if his business fails because of that.

It is a free country and we have to put up with other people saying what we believe to be ignorant all the time. But it is a free country and I prefer it that way--even with the ignorant. Think of it this way: when people make such remarks as those you incited, use it as a teaching example of how not to be.

Theyre really doing what ben elton and alexei sayle used to do of their comedy sketches. they're utilising racist ,sexist and homophobic victimisation for the comic ingredient and then pretending that they are really making relaxing of the "ignorant" ppl who those adjectives describe. Its the oldest trick interior the e book. The ppl who snicker at those comedy sketches aren't from now on pitying the racist, sexist and homophobic ppl of society.they're only laughing on the audacious mockery of those ethnic communities. All this stated,so what.the purely ppl getting disenchanted about it are the white leftist cranks like ken livingstone. the blacks, women, and gays in all likelihood watch and earnings from the shows regardless. even with the reality that in my opinion i come across little britain repetitive and infantile.

We all are otherist to some degree. The right situation or person pushes the right button on the very wrong day for us it will come out. Its a self-defense thing, albeit a bad one. Its in our nature.

i think that people should always be aware of others stances anf feelings, but at the same time, a great american revolutionist once said "i may not agree with what you have to say, but i will fight to the death for your right to say it"; lets not in the pursuit of avoiding toe-stomping tramlple all over the first amendment (yes, i realize this is a completely american piont of view)
