Has anyone here transfured into a SUNY school, talk about your experience?

I go to a SUNY community college right now, and I want to transfur to UAlbany....so, just give me whatever advice you have...cuz im literally freaking out

Since no one else has answered you yet, maybe this will help a little. I teach at a SUNY university (not Albany) and have quite a few students who transfer from community colleges.

The good part is that the credits should transfer seamlessly since it is within the SUNY system. But students tell me it is a bit of a shock during the first semester because they discover that it is much harder than where they were, and the level of expectation is higher so it can be stressful until you get settled in. Be mentally prepared for that--if you are not a really strong student you might want to take a slightly lighter course load in your first semester to give yourself more time to make the transition. From my view as a professor and advisor, the majority of them do settle in okay and most do very well after they transfer, so don't be afraid of it.

If you have gotten good grades in community college, that will obviously help. Certain programs are more selective than others because they are highly impacted and can only take a limited number of transfer students, so that is something you should check into as well. If you are thinking about transferring for next fall, you should put that process in motion very soon if you have't already done so.

While I have some issues with the SUNY system as an employee, I think overall it offers students a solid education at a very reasonable price. I hope it works out for you!
