My guess is the wasp went down to the water to get a drink and your fish got hungry which freaked the wasp out so your poor fish got stung.
If this were my fish acting like he was ready to die I would watch him to see what he's doing.
Is he struggling to get to the surface (bettas breath air) to breath? If so then I would take aluminum foil and create a place near the surface of the water for him to rest so he doesn't have to struggle so much.
Or is he just acting a little out of it? Since there probably isn't a fish medicine for wasp stings I would give him fungus or ick medicine and see if that helps. Also some stress zyme might make him feel better. Just don't change his water right now as that's enough to kill most healthy fish.
I hope he makes it!

Hmmm, odd, i never heard of a wasp stinging a betta but i guess it is do-able. First off, lets think about this, how toxic the venom in a wasps sting is, plus the size of the betta verses the ammount of vemon it recieved. Now logically if the betta got a full dose he/she would be killed instantaniously, but you got lucky. So now, you should go to you local pet store, who has a large selection of freshwater antibiotics. Now since venom isnt a virus or a parasite pretty much all you can do is try to treat him with external medications that would encourage natural slime coat production and stress relief. But if you want to take it a step further you can adjust his surrounding conditions which always help to ensure the health in all fish. Go get a fish tank min. of 2.5 gallons. The kit most commonly comes with a built in filter. Filtration is excellent in the aid of healing fish. Water flow stimulates movement and activity, make sure its not powerful though, bettas like low water flow, but just enough to get him to move about a bit. Secondly, the media inside the filter like carbon helps also. Carbon removes harmful toxins within the water, hint hint, might help with the deadly venom. Make sure you are pre-treating his water with chlorine remover, even bottled water has chemicals in it so it doesnt spoil when it reaches us. And after all that and he is in his new set up, make sure you are feeding him his favorite or premium food. A good brand i reccomend is betta Bio-Gold by Hikari. I swear by that pruduct. Ok, now make sure you keep him out of direct sunlight, leave the light off in his aquarium for now untill he gets better and always keep an eye on him. And no i hope ou learned you lesson to never ever leave an aquarium open for things to fall into, especially with bettas who are known to jump out if healthy. Hope this helps!

How crazy is that! I never would have figured that a fish was at risk of being stung by a stinkin wasp. Poor fish!
I think you will just have to wait and see if he will survive this trauma. Keep all of his water parameters stable and don't feel guilty if he doesn't make it. You can't do anything for him nor can a vet.

how did a wasp get to your beta water may have absorbed most of venom, also some animals (fish too) have immunities to certain types of other animal venoms. i cant tell you what will happen but good luck.

well the discoloring is surely venom or just the result of any dying fish. go to the pet store or your vet... pet stores usually have a pro who knows all sorts of cases and vets have a diploma showing that they know what they are doing.
but i have one question for you. how can a wasp sting your beta if he is underwater and why are you asking people at Yahoo!

Your fish could be dying, just keep a eye on him! Try giving him a better more cleaner tank to live in. That will make him feel comfortable.

Sorry to say there is nothing you can do to help your fish, but that doesn't mean it will die either. Keep his water clean and keep him well fed and hope for the best.

I don't know that much about fish, but I would say call your local vet and ask them instead of asking a bunch of people on yahoo for their opinion! Vets are usually really nice people when it comes to worried pet owners and will gladly help you the best they can even if you do just call in with a question.
