Other than the title and size of the document, none really. One is provided by a testing center and doled out by the state (GED) and the other by a school (diploma). The GED is objective (involves only testing and multiple guessing); whereas, the diploma is subjective grading (based on how closely a student's thought process is to a teacher's).

Which one is better? Depends on the person. If you feel you're wasting your time sitting in a class when you could challenge it or know you can pass it, take the GED and get a jump in the job market or head start in college. If you are the type who has to have interaction with others to learn, then stay in school and get the diploma.

A high school diploma you get when you graduate from a public school 4 year high school.A high school equivalence (GED)you get from a state sponsored program. The benefits are better from having a high school diploma. Most employers would prefer a person with a diploma because a GED would raise a few red flags on the persons character. Why did you drop out of high school? Were you a discipline problem? Were you kicked out.It it best to get your GED as soon as possible after leaving high school.
