you have to find out why you're snoring first. snoring usually means there's something blocking the airflow as you sleep.

you can buy over the counter nose strips that help open up your nasal passages

if you're sick or have allergies, you might just be congested--try taking benedryl or other decongestants before you go to bed

if you're overweight, that also could cause a problem but you should discuss that with your doctor.

If your snoring is really loud and disruptive, chances are good that you have a condition called sleep apnea, which MUST be taken seriously. Untreated sleep apnea not only stresses both the snorer and everyone else in the house who can't get a good night's sleep, it can also lead to heart malfunction and death! And not all sleep apnea sufferers are overweight; that is a myth.

Apnea is easily treated with the use of a night-breathing aid called a CPAP. You must see a sleep doctor before you can get one, as they have to be individually adjusted, but most insurance covers the cost. CPAP eliminates snoring 100% and keeps your heart from being damaged. Surgery is now rarely used to treat apnea, as the success rate is not that good. The nasal strips are a waste of time for serious snorers.

Please ask your doctor to refer you to a sleep doctor or sleep clinic ASAP. These facilities often have a long waiting list, and procrastinating can really damage your health. Do it today.

Most likely brought on by being overweight. Believe or not you can even gain weight in the soft palate in the back of your throat. That "excess" flab relaxes as you fall asleep and blocks your air passage and vibrates causing the snoring sound. hat's why your throat may be sore in the morning. Combine alcohol with the extra flab and it gets worse. Best avoided by not sleeping on your back. Sounds easy but it's not. Some people sew a tennis ball in the back of a shirt and wear that shirt to bed to keep them from sleeping on their back. That's probably the cheapest fix but it doesn't cure the problem. You may have to go to a sleep clinic to positively identify where the problem lies.

My wife complained that my snoring was keeping her awake. Two things helped us:

1) I went to a doctor (GP) who told me I have a slightly deviated septum and perhaps mild allergies. He prescribed fluticasone propionate spray and fexofenadine tablets. That dries up my postnasal drip and shrinks my nasal membranes to enhance air flow.

2) My wife went to a doctor, and got some prescription sleeping pills. She also got a white noise generator for her night stand.

Now she sleeps well. I'm not sure if I snore anymore or not.
