I think the bluescreen of death i got was a software fault, as it started to do the blue screen after i installed a piece of software, so i did a system restore and i ran the chkdisk utilty, would you say my problems are solved?

Possibly, if you haven't seen the blue screen. But just in case here is a link to the most common blue screen error messages, as there are all different types of them.

Stop errors are usually caused by faulty drivers and hardware

software is an exception, but it can happen - if the software installs itself as part of the operating system

system restore points can be reverted, do some troubleshooting and see if the issue(s) is repeatable

bsod is typically there to save your hardware from burning up or frying. Sometimes a program could send such a bad signal to peice of hardware that your OS thought it would explode.

Go over your hardware configuration again just to be safe, hopefully it is fixed.
