I have been waiting for an answer to that for years.
I want a working man in the white house for once. Not a lawyer.

There are very few genuine fiscal conservatives in the Republican Party. Their objection to taxes is because they hate to share anything with anybody. What little we do take makes the ungenerous wealthy scream like hell.
These same screamers are all lined up at the trough for corporate subsidies and tax deductions for their corporate yachts and super bowl seats. Their so called conservatism is simply the natural expression of the miserly with a righteous face.
Look at the way the Senators who call themselves "fiscal conservatives" have lined up at the trough for junkets overseas and unneeded pork barrel projects for their own constituencies. They give themselves the lie.
The fact is that we do not want a government that is too small and powerless to intervene where needed. The argument is really about who gets how much, and when? Those voters who are genuine fiscal conservatives will vote for the candidate whose spending priorities match their own, which they mostly do now.

the Libertarians may not be a perfect fit.. but I think they are closer to what a fiscal conservative would look for than either of the two major parties at this time.

You are really generalizing. Both parties are much more than what you claim, they are just made out to be that way by their detractors.
And as far as fiscal conservatives, we are hoping the Republicans remember who they used to be and get back to it instead of following this administrations fiscal policies.

We are still republicans for the most part although there are fiscal conservative democrats also, they are just not liberal democrats.
We are a minority in this age of entitlement it seems.

They'll just stick with their current party. Clearly, fiscal responsibility is not a priority.
It takes a combination of a reasonable president and reasonable congress. The contract with america repubs + clinton seemed to work out ok-- we did have a surplus after all.
Of course, the minute you start cutting anything, people whine and moan-- too bad.

The Democtatic party has become the party of fiscal responsibility.
The Republicans abandonded that idea when after Eisenhower left office.
