I want to play line for my highschool's football team, and I don't know if I am big enough. I weigh 164 pounds, can bench 185, squat 240 and deadlift 245.
Do you think I could play on line on JV this year, and varsity next year? What position on line?
If i can't I am going to play kicker.

That is something you need to talk to your coach about. I dont know what type of offence or deffence he runs. On offence knowing how to get leverage is key, not size. A smaller guy can control a bigger guy if you get lower than him and stand him up. If you are talking D than a DE is best for you if you have to play line, but you might make a good LB too. But in the end just ask the coach.

I think you could but I would stay away from the position of Center....this position requires you to be able to react quickly and defend the quarterback as the players on either side fall in to do the same....Personally if you are quick I would try out for wide receiver if you have good hands and can catch well. If not then perhaps running back. I think that from what you have specified the only thing (no matter what position you choose) that you should be concerned about is your time it takes you to snap out of the starting position and how much force you can put into a push....deadlift and squats are good but remember you aren't lifting these guys off their feet you are trying to maintain their current positon or better yet push them back. If you whole line is pushing as a cohesive unit then you've done a great job....if you push to far head of your team mates even though to you it may look like a job well done just think of the whole you have left where you were standing. At 164pds you are relatively small (weight wise) so I think running back would be where I would start out. Any good coach though will see you try out somewhere and if you don't fit then he will move you to the place he thinks would best use your talents.....just be sure to be open to where he puts you....team players are always appreciated.

I am a senior in high school and just finished my football career. I weighed 225 benched only 245, squat 495 and deadlifted 405. You'll have to work hard, but it can be done. You'll have to consider who else is on the team and see if you'll play. I started on jv for two years, butt got some varsity time. and started varsity my senior year. it is all about determination. You are smaller, but you just need to have confidence in yourself and a little bit of speed. Also, you can try going out for fullback or linebacker if youre too small.

Just from my own personal experience, size depends on what kind of offense your team plans on running. I was 5'9 160lbs and played left guard. We ran the wishbone option, so that requires fast linemen because of the trap plays and the sweep plays.. So, me personally, if you are quick off the ball you should be great for the guard position.

164 is awfully small for a lineman. You should go out for linebacker or safety.
