Umm, a laptop, cell phone, notebooks or manuals for work, keys, business cards, basically anything one would carry in a brief case. Messenger bags are the 21st C answer to the 20s to 80s leather briefcase, and the 90s attache case. Versatile, but easier to carry!

It really depends. If one is to carry it for school, they might use a variety of books. It is generally not used for any other purpose, only if they were a "messanger." The purpose of a messanger bag is to keep documents in order and upright for a messanger can take them to their destination without having to dig under other papers.

Im not sure. I think it makes sense to use one for school. other than that, not sure what they would use it for.
