The community college answer is correct, but allow me to elaborate on it a bit. What you are looking for are articulated programs. Go to your state Department of Education website and look up the various degree programs that are offered at your state's community colleges. When you find a program that you like, go to that school's website and see if it is articulated to a four year state university.

An articulated program means that as long as you finish the community college program with the required GPA, you are guaranteed acceptance to the state program. And there are some outstanding programs out there. Many of NASA's engineers got there Associate degrees at either Valencia or Brevard Community College, and then articulated to UCF for their Bachelors in Engineering. Programs exist across the country in nursing, engineering, teaching, etc. Find what you want to do and then find the program

Usually in the first year, most college freshman are taking the core courses that all students need to graduate. By changing your major from one to the other, shouldn't have an affect on your acceptance into your chosen university. If, by some chance you are not accepted for this coming Fall Semster/Quarter. I'd suggest going to a local junior college or community college. Take the English, Math, Psych/Soci. classes then reapply next fall or next semester. If you are not accepted ask them why and what you can do to increase your chances..perhaps retake the ACT/SAT? Good Luck

check out the schools admission records for each department. sometimes the engineering school is easier to get into depending on how many people are applying to that department. you can always apply again as a transfer student too if you take your lower level courses somewhere else and transfer in as a junior.

If you don't get accepted into college, there is always community college, Just take your lower class requirements there. Talk to a counselor while you are there. He/she will help you to transfer to the school of your choice after you tell that counselor your options.
