Very sparse on the classroom walls, no colourful displays like there are now. There may have been a map on the wall and a union jack!!!

The desks were in rows, one solid bench with about 6 places to sit on the bench. Under the desk there would have been a shelf to rest your slate while you weren't working, and there would have been an ink well in your desk.

All the girls would sit at one side of the room, and the boys at the other. There was no talking aloud and you had to sit upright on the benches with your hands behind your backs when you weren't writing!!!!!

Hope that helps, I've done loads about the Victorians with the children at school so have had to research.
