The basket is 10 feet from the floor to the top of the rim. The rim is 18" in diameter. A men's basketball is slightly more than 9" in diameter. You actually can put two men's basketballs through the rim at the exact same time with only a small amount of push. (If you don't believe me, go to a sporting goods store with a rim up and try it. I used to demonstrate this to my players when I coached.) The women's high school basketball is slightly less than 9" in diameter, so the "push" is not needed for two women's high school basketballs to go through the rim at the same time.
