Things have been going so well then I come to lay w/ him and he says you have competition w/ this girl he seen on tv and said she is hot. I know its silly to let this bother me but it does. Ever since I was little up until I was 18 years old my mother always told me I was ugly, fat and nobody would ever want me. And those are words that have stayed w/me. And then I get w/ someone I love and loves me back but doesnt know when to keep his thoughts to himself knowing I have a poor self image. i know it was a joke but thats not something I want to hear when I am spending what little time w/ my husband. Now I feel like I did before and i dont know what to do quit letting things like this bother me. My own sister tells me the same thing that I am going to end up pushing him away when he says things like this to me I start to believe what my mother has been saying all these years. Now I am in a sour mood.

I don't think that it is something to be ignored. If it bothers you, let him know. Its not fair for him to make his jokes and expect you to laugh all the time. If he knows that things like this bothers you, he should not be teasing you about it. When something bothers you, you need to talk to him about it. This can get in between you if you don't talk about it. You will feel hurt, and now every time you see that girl on TV, you will feel like she is better than you. Sit with him and let him know. Tell him that everything don't have to be serious between you two and you can joke around but with things like this, it makes you feel insecure and he needs to respect that at least. It might be small potato for someone else but it's big for you. You are the one in this relationship and you're the one who is feeling this way, not them.

Tell him he has competition with that new hot neighbor man that moved in down the street. Smile and let him wonder if you're joking or not.

You've got a few ways you can respond to this. You can try to have an honest discussion, which might work. Or maybe you can tease him right back. Depends on the personality of your hubby...I don't think he had it in his mind to hurt you, though.

dont feel bad just because your mother or he says something doesn't make it true ? of course not, they want to hurt you it is them who are insecure and rude, --or your own mother wouldn't tell you horrible things like that, you can see the damage she did to you, tell him you don't care- you can find someone hotter than him, give it right back to him, he is awful.

I think you need to relax. Refer to your own sentence "I know its silly to let this bother me."
It is silly to let it bother you - poor self esteem isn't attractive, anyway.

This is a problem withon YOUR marriage, and yet you are generalizing, placing the blame on ALL husbands when you don't know ALL husbands. You need to discuss this wiht YOUR husband and get it straightened out rather than blame everyone else.
