Be open with everyone, be nice with the people you are talking to.
Mostly going out, clubs, restaurants, malls, school, stores, you will find nice people that might be nice people to hang out.
Real friends you will find only one two or three in your lifetime, friends to hang out you can find them anywhere.
On-line friends not for me, I do not trust anyone.

Few people really have friends, they mostly have acquaintances that they *think* are their friends. When push comes to shove, and you need a real friend, the odds are that they will not be there. If you can find one real friend during your life... then you are very fortunate.

Go out and do things with people, Introduce your self to everyone around and try to start conversation. It's easy. Once you have 1 friend you make friends with thier friends and so on and so forth.
