My 8 year old grandson got a Sony 512 MB for Xmas. It had to be taken back the next day, because he dropped it in his soup. His Dad just claimed that it worked for only two hours and then just quit (which was true--he just didn't mention the soup). They got a new one free of charge, and he is not allowed to wear it while he is eating.

So far it is still alive and well, and it holds more than enough songs for him.

It depends on where u live. I've seen many inexpensive MP3 Players, but the best one by far for a 9 year old is at Wal-Mart. It's called the MuVo Tx FM. Creative Labs makes it, and it holds up to around 75 songs. Plus, it's only 40$. Hope this was helpful.

I wouldn't go with an expensive one, if I were you. We have a 10 and 9 year old and we got them one for Christmas. When we went on trips (and we road trip quite a bit)it was just a lot easier for them to have that rather than a cd player. This offered more variety. We got them the Creative Zen V, it was about 80 dollars. We also weren't too worried about the age thing. In this day and age of Nintendo DS's, entertainment centers for cars, and things of that nature, most kids know how to care for them. They can make mistakes, we all can. Just do your research and I am sure that you will find the best fit for you.

We liked it because the kids could make their own playlists, it wasn't bulky, the price was okay, and they could see what is playing at the moment. Good luck!

Why does a 9-year old need an MP3 player? I'm 23 and I don't even have one, my 10-year old cousin doesn't even have one! If they really need it, go with a cheap one, as mentioned. Your loss if it's broken though, I would go with something cheaper, like a portable CD player or something. I would wait a until they're at least 13 to have a MP3 player.

Don't buy a 9 year old an MP3 Player that sounds like such a bad idea.

Nine-year olds need Lego, or maybe a baseball glove and baseball. Action figures (for boys) or dolls (for girls) are good.

An MP3 player? Are you kidding?

Next year you'll be asking what kind of cellphone he should have. The answer? None.
