Call or look up the website for the Secretary of State's office for whichever state the corporation is located in. I believe they maintain that information and you should be able to access it for free.

Or, you could always call the business and ask for the bookkeeper and ask him/her what the fed tax id is.

I don't like to lie.

But, you could call and say you need their federal ID # to set them up as a vendor. If they ask who you are, hang up. If they ask you to FAX them a W9, hang up. Otherwise, I don't know how you would get it and why you would need it.
