Go to real estate school and complete the Real Estate Pre-Licensing course. The best school with many locations is Hondros College. http://www.hondros.edu If you aren't ready to sign up, order a catalog from them. After you complete the courses - 4 in all - Principles and Practices, Law, Finance and Agency - both on State and National practices, then you'll be given transcripts from the school after passing your final exams. Tuition is around $1600.
With your transcripts, you can sign up to take the State and National exams given by Experior testing corp. You'll pay a testing fee ($50, I believe if I remember correctly). You'll sit for the exams. Upon passing, your license will be issued once you apply for it through a brokerage firm ($49 fee). Your license gets sent to your broker and then you're in the business.
My tips for PASSING is to study EVERYDAY! Take the chapter exams and use online or cd-rom testing aids as the state exam is taken on a computer. Hondros sells a crammer CD and an excellent test prep also has study disks. The best test prep is the Hondros Crammer and this one: http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Real-Estate-Practice-Ohio/dp/0793187974/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-5454466-3584137?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174942078&sr=1-1 You can also get it at Borders, Barnes & Noble or wherever you purchase books. Be sure to get the updated version sold with the study CD.
After you have signed with a broker, you need to pay dues to your local Board of REALTORS (about $200+). Once you pay your national and local dues, you can now use the title, REALTOR. Most brokers require that you are a member of the local MLS (multiple listing service) and that is a quarterly (all of these fees besides the test and application fee are usually billed and payable quarterly) fee of about $100.
Best wishes to you. Making yourself study until you're getting at least 90% on your quizzes is the best thing you can do.
