The Pistons have been on top of the East for a long time now. They're the first Eastern Conference Team to clinch a playoff spot, and they've proven that they can contend with the best by beating the sense out of the Suns. They've been a top team for a few years running. But Basketball fans outside of this area just don't want to talk about the Pistons. I just want to know why they don't get any kind of respect. The press gives them a somewhat fair deal, but other fans just talk about teams with marquee players, even if the team is awful (Kevin Garnett and his T-Wolves are a great example, or J-Kidd and the Nets.) It's a team sport, but no one respects a good team, just good players. The Mavs, The Suns, The Rockets, are all great teams, but the Pistons are not far behind them, except when it comes to recognition. Why?

Probably because of all the rumors about Detroit being a bad city.

The Pistons are a solid team, that alot of people just don't like. Either becuse of the city that they're from or because of there past. Remember that back in the day the Bulls, and the Pistons were a huge rivalry. They hated each other. And because of Jordan, alot of people didn't like the Pistons. Now I think it's because of the way they play and the people they have on there team. They play more as individulas and not as a team. Plus they have alot of players that are simply not liked. Rasheed Wallace, Prince, Hamilton, Billups, and a few other bad ***'.

The reason is that the Pistons do not have a true all star like Dallas, or Pheonix. The Nets were getting more respect even though they were killed by the Lackers in the finals more than once because they had Jason Kidd who is an all star. Detroit is balanced, and the closest all star they had Ben Wallace left for more money. Until they get a true all star or win more than one championship they will not be respected.

With the loss of Ben Wallace I think Detroit lost credibility as a defensive team, which has been their trademark in those seasons where they were very successful. Much of the attention this year has transferred to Chicago, which coincidentally is where Wallace ended up. In the East, teams like Cleveland and Miami have gobbled up the media attention. But I think the bigger problem is that no one in Detroit is what you would call a good interview, they don't have any charismatic players wherein people want to read what he has to say. That said, they've been quietly winning games but with recent losses to Western heavyweights like Dallas, Houston and San Antonio they aren't highly regarded to win a championship this year -- not with Nazr Mohammed instead of Ben Wallace, that is.

the pistons are a very balanced team. they do not need an all star like the lakers and other teams i think it is a lot better having the whole team balanced instead of resting ur fate on one player just in case he gets injured. also the pistons are doing just fine w/ out Ben Wallace we got a lot of people to take his place like Chris Weber and he is doing just fine. ppl just for no reason hate us cause we r in the east and they hate Detroit. news flash Detroit is not a bad city not all of detroit is bad there r some good places in it

lets see contributing factors...no STAR player...a coach who has not really been successful/no significant playoff wins...they could not beat miami in last years playoffs..there is still the pacer brawl stigma to the team...rasheed 'T' wallace...chris webber is known as a 'failure', his teams have never advanced in the playoffs..rip hamilton is the guy'with the mask'...prince is a 'defensive' guy...ben wallace is gone and there is no 'presence' in the middle [nazr mohammed]...carlos[i dont want to be here]delfino...flip murray/free agent signee who was rumored to be traded until the deadline...chauncy billups the guy who will play out his option and go to? denver/orlando....which guy is older?mcdyess or davis..both not playoff successful guys....maybe if there was a labron/wade/carter-kidd/gilbert to get them headlines but they dont....i could go on but that should give you some idea why they 'get no respect'

They are generally a dirty team, especially Rasheed and Billups. No real dazzling stars, just good players in general.
They faded hugely last year. No white Americans.

People just don't like them because their in the east. They think the east is weak and easy, thats the only reason why people think they are bad, because they face easy teams all the time.
