I wear my hair natural and it is much better than when I chemically straightened it. To me it is easier to manage. All that crap that black women say about their hair being more manageable when relaxed is bull... They just don't know and weren't taught how to take care of their natural hair. They were only taught how to care for relaxed hair. If a black female wants to keep her hair natural, she can. It's all about this simple question: is she willing to learn?

I used to and relaxed my hair faithfully.
Then.....I went to a new salon and they are pro-naturan and really discourage relaxers because they are so damaging.
My hair is a little past my shoulders and I can still wear it straight. I have not gotten a relaxer (not even at my edges) since last June. I have been getting a special deep conditioner that allows me to wear it straight and does not revert. I notice that I have more body and shine.
The conditioner is $20 on top pf the $45 for WBC. I did skip the conditioner one week because I didn't want to sit under the dryer ---- big mistake! When you think of the cost of a relaxer at a salon, the conditioner is not really expensive when out into perspective. I ususally have it set and now I even hold the curls. When the curls start to fall I just wrap it. It is so easy to take care of. I won't try to wash it and blow it out myself though. Remember Angela Davis back in the day? Well that is what I envision when I think about trying it myself and that is not the look I am going for.
I was a major skeptic but I love it now. I have been hearing other stylists talking about it but do not know the name of it, I am pretty sure it is an Aveda product though. I would rather have color in my hair than a relaxer.
if you were referring to dreads or just a short natural style, I have no experience with that.

It all depends. I had my hair relaxed about a month ago, and a week after it was done, my hair was back being majorly frizzy. It makes me so mad. I hate doing my hair anyways because it doesn't do what I want it to do. Right now it's okay, but I had to straighten it, and that takes forever! My hair is kind of curly, and extremely thick. It looks beautiful when it's relaxed and "girly", but I have to put tons of work into it. I just wear headbands a lot now. Either way, I have to struggle with my hair, but not when it's been relaxed in the first week. After that, it's all shot to hell.

I think natural hair is much harder for me to mantain than relaxed. relaxing my hair makes it more manageable.
I also agree with what R.K said. I was never taught how to have natural hair so i have no idea what to do when its natural. I would like to have natural hair though. i think it can be so pretty sometimes. But I have no idea how to take care of it.

To be honest, I haven't relaxed my hair in 4 years, and now I get my hair pressed with a straighen iron.
When my hair is in an afro, it's much harder for me to maintian because it's so thick.
I prefer my hair straighten because it's much easier to mantain, and I don't have to deal with it as much.

It basically depends on your hair texture. For some it's easier with relaxed hair but for me personally my natural hair is easy to keep up.

the substantial element to holding African American hair is moisture. no longer OIL!!! Moisturizing Shampoos, Deep Penetrating conditioners and Thermal Protectants will insure healthful hair. I certainly have heard of individuals whipping shea butter and olive oil jointly and applying it to the hair. verify YOUTUBE for movies.

I think relaxing is hard an dI spend so much money on it. I like being natural, I feel free and more closer to my Caribbean and African brothas and sisats.
