Short answer, you can't. If you were to set up two separate partitions, one for your music and one for Windows, then you could just format the Windows partition which would leave your music files untouched.

My advice, back up the files and when you format the drive, set up two partitions instead of one. This way you can use one partition for all your files and music, and one for programs and Windows.

Well you see, wiping the hard drive will get rid of all programs and put your computer to how it was when it was brand new, music is a program. Save all of your music to CD's or a flash drive and then reformat the drive.

Had to do the same thing with mine.

You can't. What you must do is transfer your music files to another removable storage container ie Cds or Dvd's. Your virus ( if you actually have one ) is most probably in one of these files anyway, especially if you have downloaded them free.
Go to control panel > add/remove programs and remove the McAfee program from there.

The best way would be to offload the music. If you can, burn them to cd, or to a flash drive. Now you can wipe without bothering about partitions or what to not wipe. If you can't offload, then you need software to create a new partition (partitionMagic is a good one) to hide the music in. Just be careful that it's not included in the wipe.

you can wipe it but all the music will be gone too. burn it on either a cd if you just have a cd burner or DVD if you have a dvd burner.

clean the drive and get AVG Free Edition. it gives you free antivirus for of course free. then get the comodo free firewall

avg is great! i got a virus that mcafee didn't detect and AVG picked up after i installed it.

you can burn all your music files to either a blank cd or dvd disk
if your antivirus program is up-to-date - scan all your music files before burning them to the cd - this will ensure that those files don't have any viruses
