The Democrats have tacked on $20 billion in pork barrel spending on their bill to end Iraq. $20 billion seems like a lot of money to us, but in the federal budget it's not much more than pennies.
This bill seems designed to make both Democrats and Republicans come out smelling like roses. The Democrats can say, "We passed the bill to end the war." The president can say, "I justifiably vetoed the bill because of all the pork barrel spending added to it."
The Democrats could have easily passed this bill without the pork, which would have left no reason for a presidential veto other than to prolong the war.
Do you think the president will reward the Democrats for their cooperation with presidential approval of a favorite Democratic program in the coming months?

The democrats bill to end the war isn't a charade.

It's an attempt at doing it the right way first. Now that Dubya has shot it down, they will be able to cut off funding for the war. When Dubya and the GOP'ers scream and complain, the dems can stand back and say 'hey - we tried'.

The iraq war is going to be over very soon either way.

There are still a few idealists in the new congress that would not vote for this so they are being indoctrinated into the fine art of congressional corruption.

My hope remains that Bush will get some cajones and veto every single thing these commies try to shove down our throats.

The congress is criminal. All 50 states have requested a Constitutional Convention and the congress has failed to act, which is a violation of Article V. That is a crime and it is tyranny at its finest. Watch your rights erode day by day and they chisel away at our great country.

Now is the time to say NO.

Socialism is a failed variety. you have in basic terms to look at eire, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, Greece, Spain and Portugal to be certain the way it rather is understanding for them and something of Europe. Of the optimal GDP's in the worldwide - (US & Japan) guy or woman states in the U. S. rank some distance above maximum international locations. it rather is our freedom, innovation andpersistent to be greater effectual that makes this united states of america great. once you rob peter to pay paul because of the fact paul isn't imaginitive sufficient to come back up with a decision on his very own, you STIFLE innovation. not in basic terms that, yet you stifle the progression of society as an entire. Entitlements are actually not earned. Entitlements are given. people on no account take excitement in what's certainly given do they. maximum people might agree that for the time of a unfastened marketplace society, we ought to constantly be waiting to keep from state to state for insurance AND prescribed drugs. it rather is particularly the only exchange that desires to be made. keep it aggressive and you will keep the charges down. This well being care bill will make all of our insurance costs skyrocket - watch. i'm going to wager my existence on it. it rather is not a good factor for usa.

Of course it is. We are supposed to forget taht the Dems were the majority in the Congress when they voted FOR the war and allowed Bush to GO to war. Thats why there was so much political spinning being done that Bush lied about the facts, when the FACT is that the facts came from the Senate Intelligence committee which was chaired by senior Dem Senator Rockefeller who also voted for the war. How many idiots have fallen for the Bush lied crap without even questioning why a political party would do that. To hide the fact that they voted for the war. No one is calling for Hillary's impeachment or the other national candidates who voted for the war. Why do people fall for political jargon, get all worked up and then run around like barking dogs for politicians. We need a whole new group not the same old Dems and Reps but how many fools have been fooled by the Dem spin?

Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
-James Bovard, Civil Libertarian (1994)

Sounds like we're the sheep here.

Talk is cheap...except when Congress does it.

Their "pennies" turn into quite a bit more than that as deficit spending that is attached to interest.

No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.
-Mark Twain (1866)

They are doing it for political gain, not to be public servants as we elected them to do.

What this country needs are more unemployed politicians.

Unfortunately pork gets votes tipped. And the Democrats needed these to at least make the moderate statement that Dictator Dumbya doesn't call ALL the shots, lacking those Democratic votes that would have made a STRONGER statement to discontinue funding completely for the Dictator Dumbya Big Lie Iraqi Crusade.

Most of the bills ever introduced by congress have pork projects attached to them.

It is very seldom that they even bring up a bill that is just specically for the purpose of the bill.

Yes, they are being seen for what they really are. Only problem, it is to late, they are already in office. They promised to bring the troops home in six months after getting into office. I guess we should have all asked which six months are you talking about. They have raised gas prices by imposing royalties on the oil companies back into the '90's. They promised no more pork barrel politics, guess that was a lie to. They promised to do away with the partisan politics, well that didn't happen. They promised to do away with the lobbyists but didn't. Guess it is time to change parties.

The pork barrel spending is from members of BOTH parties.

I'm glad the Dems are finally asking questions about the endless money...going to pay for the endless war.

He said he would have vetoed it. Period. Ask fellow Republican Hagel what he think about President Bush's unilateral decision to veto an end to the war. He's one of the first Republican's I've heard who has used the word 'impeach' in reference to Mr. Bush.
