I think any test used to qualify candidates should be a combination of IQ, knowledge of world and national issues, problem solving, knowledge of basic ethics, comprehension of oral and written material, etc. Of course it will never happen and it wouldn’t be any guarantee of a decent office holder but at least it would weed out some of the disasters.

No. A little story to explain my position.
Back when running 1st became popular, Runner's World magazine had an annual shoe survey where they ranked the shoes from best to 20th best. After a few years, they changed the format, evaluating the shoes in many categories & publishing all those results. They explained the change saying "Running shoes are too complex to reduce to a single number".
I think the human brain is AT LEAST as complex as a sneaker, but maybe thet's just me.

the IQ of who, the voter or the candidate?
I would hope that candidates are smarter than average, but I am more concerned that they have some wisdom and common sense, and some ethics.

It would be nice if there was a minimum IQ to run. But just a high IQ does not mean you will make smart choices...Just look at Bill Clinton...high IQ...No Morals

It is who they pick for their cabinet, makes them more informed or not. I would pick a man who can pick the best men for the right jobs. This is usually more a matter of common sense than IQ.

No, I think it would be unfair for the country to have to vote for very highly intelligent people, Some with average intelligence can do a fine job and maybe better.

No. But, if Bush left the Republican party and joined the Democrat party, the IQs of both parties would increase.
