I'm aching to be at home sitting on my butt doing nothing but watching tv or aching to be at the beach in a chair laying out and snoozing to the sound of the ocean waves.

I've lived in all the states you mentioned.
New York, cool as it gets
Maryland, a little quiet but a hop skip and a jump to get someplace more exciting (Washington DC NYC and Boston).
I hate to say it, but I hated Texas. There is no real culture, most of the people act the same and expect you to be like them--or else. You gotta drive days to go someplace cool. Everything closes after 8 PM. You can't get a good patrami sandwich anywhere, much less some good kaldereta. The income is low and job options few. There are gun rack toting pickup trucks with Nascar stickers everywhere [shudders].
Maybe you should move?
