No country has a pure capitalist system. Given the choice, I'd take capitalism over communism.

Since you clearly hate the USA so much, I just threw out my Belgian chocolate. When I get home, I'll be pouring my Stella Artois and Chimay Cinq Cents down the drain.

You're showing your true communist colors today, JGF.

The US uses a different standard of infant mortaility than other countries.

For example, in america if a baby is born, takes one breath and dies, it's a counted.

In some other countties, that will be counted as a still-birth and wont count.

Also, some countries have specifics, say the baby must be a certain weight or length to be counted.

The US does not.

Thats causes some of the large differences.

US (see below)
Hong Kong
Japan during the Meiji era

Since pure capitalism has been tried so few times the question is really more a matter of are the average people better off when the pendulum has swung toward a freer economy than a controlled economy in the same country (the examples are legion, and I'll give you Brazil, Mexico, China, India, Vietnam); one can also compare countries similar in every respect OTHER than degree of economic freedom - say Hong Kong versus China in the 1980s, or Singapore versus Thailand in the 1990s.

Capitalism is a theory. It hasn't worked in any country because it doesn't truly exist. Free markets do not exist in the United States. If they did the country would be in ruins.

For those that claim capitalism works in the U.S., just wondering what your thoughts are on government bailouts of various industries?

Was the savings & loan bailout in the late 1980s an example of pure-play, laissez-faire capitalism?

Western Europe and Japan operates fine under capitalism. Because modern capitalism works on a global scale, the winners and losers are no longer in the same country. Overall, capitalism has been very damaging, but plenty of individual countries have operated fine under a capitalistic system because the inevitable damage occurs on the other side of the world.

The USA. If you already live here, then try living in a socialist country where the government takes care of you from your birth until your death. Or, maybe live in a communist country, where you own nothing and have no say in your life. Go ahead, if the USA upsets you so much, then move. We don't care.

Anything can work for a short period. It is only a matter of time before the American economy implodes. It is not sustainable in the long term the way it is now. Eventually something is going to have to change.
