If there is no failure, then there is no achievement either. It's pain and suffering and work and perseverance that gives everything its value. We have to have failure otherwise we cannot go anywhere not accomplish anything at all.

I think we all would be extremely bored with life.

There must be the element of odds which at some point determine failure or success to make life's challenges worth pursuing.

Barring all this, why bother?

That is a contradiction in itself. For example, were I to commit suicide, I would have succeeding in killing myself, yet failed in self-preservation.

Perhaps it should be better worded, "If everything were effortless in life, what would you pursue?"

In which case, I would probably commit suicide for I would become bored a of a challengeless existence.
