Thanks for all your opinions. I actually like the natural order of things. Life is fun, but also hard work and to have a well-deserved rest at the end seems somehow a soothing thought. I hope to live a rich life, making the best of it whenever I can. Then making way for the younger generation when my time comes feels ok.

In Greek mythology there is the story of a man who was granted one wish, and he asked to live forever. Unfortunately, he didn't ask for eternal youth, so he kept getting older and older. Not a good way to go. In the Picture of Dorian Gray a man stays the same age but his painting ages. He soon finds out that he is deprived of life because those he loves and befriends are all in the process of dying.

Alas, it is sad to say, but in order to live and have value in life, one must die ... I just wish it would hold off for a very long while.

The self is changing anyway, so really we are always dying. We just like to define things in black and white terms. So, we say we are the same (i.e. ignoring the fact that we are not the same person year after year) throughout our life and thus continue to exist. Then, we say we no longer exist when we die. However, in reality it isn't so black and white. The momentary self is fleeting and doesn't live the whole time our bodies are alive. The long-term self is not constrained to the simple day-to-day life of the body, and lives forever.

An oldie but a goodie...can a purpose be a purpose unless it has a conclusion or result?

If death is our determination of what our life was?...who would want to live forever, and to what purpose?

My answer is only the insane.

Who wants to live in a past forever?...Now that is a different matter altogether!...to be able to go to any point in life as long as it is back in time!!!???

What do you think??

Think how boring it would be if you had to go on forever just doing what you do day to day now. Perhaps if you stayed young forever it might be different but the thought of ageing and staying that way for eternity is appalling.

I plan to live forever...and so far so good.

Im not sure about forever, but i definatly think i would like to live a few billion years anyway. I would like to live long enough to experience everything and 100 years just doesnt cut it.

I'm at ease with my mortality because I know that this world isn't forever, this body isn't forever, etc. I'm at ease with my mortality because I know that I've lived the right life, I've obeyed the laws of God and of nature, and I don't fear death because I know that there is something much better in the afterlife, so therefore I'm at ease with my mortality and I don't fear death.

In the world of abstract theory, nobody. But, in real life, assuming that one isn't in pain, who doesn't want to live until tomorrow? If we extrapolate that thought, it suggests that real people want to live one more day forever.

We all want to live forever, regardless if we admit it or not. The idea to have eternity on this planet, to explore all it's endless wonders is extrememly seductive to anyone, but alas we dont have that gift.

Queen sang a song of the same name. "who wants to live forever?". Clearly Freddie Mercury didn't because he's brown bread

To live for ever.........nah, "I" would like to exist forever though. What ever it is that "I" really am. The understanding of truth and the idea of no restraint would be wonderful. Better than the greatest of dreams.
