To speak slowly and clearly, you must have knowledge of the subject on which you are talking. You must have full command of the language you are talking in. You must have clarity of thinking. You must have the desire to observe the reaction of the listeners...and above all you must have conviction in what you are telling. Then you can consider yourself as the broad casting medium, and the listeners as the receiving set ...and resort to talking slowly and clearly so that your message is received well and your transmission is not jumbled

Try studying theatre. If you watch a bunch of plays at a theatre, watch how the people speak. They put emphasis on certain words, and pause after other words. I have always been the best reader in school because of my background in theatre. It's just about expressing yourself through voice. Follow grammar as well. You see a comma, pause and then go. If you see a period, stop for about a second or two. And try anticipating each word as you read them or speak them, and say each syllable.

Sounds strange, but practice speaking as if what you're saying is the most important thing anyone has ever said. As you practice, you'll find a natural rhythm that will sound appropriate.

Tell me about it-!!!!!-i talk so fast and illegible I cant even understand my speech--but i can give impromtu speeches cos i start and end a speech real fast and i babble so much that i have trouble explaining to the audience-wht the heck I m trying to say-and i think they r kinda embarassed to say that they din follow--i think our problem is to rber that the other person is NOT gonna run away and they will wait patiently till we complete the sentence-and i think u have to think before u speak--which I never do!-and give the other a breather--dont talk non stop--take a deep breath and wait it out-good luck--if it worked --cue me on it--cos i m still working on it

I could sound like an idiot, but try reading Dr. Seuss books aloud. Since the words rhyme, you could have a hard time stammering (well actually I have trouble..but I talk too fast) That could help you practice =) or unless you want to read other books aloud, that could help.

Seriously speaking you can use a tape recorder and record your speech and then listen to it. You will realise your mistakes and with repeated recordings and listening to it you can improve your diction and be able to modulate your voice and speed.
