Why shouldn't commit Suicide?

Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.

There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.

While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.

Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.

We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.

The fact is that when most people are suicidal, they believe that they have no options in facing whatever the situation is that they are facing. The reality is that it is our own thoughts and beliefs that change our mood. When a suicidal person is able to see that there are other options and that they can change the way they see things, then they can have hope for living.

It is always distorted ideas and perspectives that cause most people to become suicidal. This is why so many severely mentally ill people are suicidal.

With this being the case, it is entirely a terrible waste of life. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I know because I've been there many times. I have been in therapy for years...and now the lights have finally come on. Our own mind can be our worst enemy or our best friend....

FYI: In the Bible there are mentioned many suicides (Judges 9:54; 16:26-31; 1 Samuel 31:3-6 etc.) but not even one is condemned.

There is really no plausible way of getting around the fact that suicide is willful killing and God declares murderers shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone (Revelation 21:8), which is the second death.

Suicide doesn't fix anything. Think of the people you will be leaving behind to wonder why you did such a thing. You should find someone to talk to about the problems your having and the feelings your expressing right now. It will help. Even if you think there is nobody there for you, there is. There is always someone who's life you have touched in some way. Really think about this.

Well I agree with the country girl a little, you know that as much of crappy time it might be right now there is someone who will want to just die if something happened to you. Just picture your funeral how do you see the people that attend? I swear it will eventually get somewhat better just hang in there. Theres always someone to talk to. Like right now I'm trying to convince ANYBODY to move away with me. I hate my life and I just want to run away where nobody knows me and start over but nobody will come. Turns out they like there life. Seriously I hear ya man but it can be worse a lot worse I'm sure just hang in there.

Because this is the only shot you get at life. If you're unhappy with your life, you aren't stuck, no matter how it feels. Sometimes it just takes patience, sometimes it takes extreme action, but there's always a way to change your situation to feel better about it. Things in life could never be that bad! You have to have faith, and get some support and help from a professional, but be careful to tell a psychiatrist or Doctor that you don't want to live anymore, because if they think that you are going to harm yourself or someone else, they will put you in a mental institution.

Trust me, I have a friend that it happened to.
