Not the same people who thought up the cost to raise a foster child , I can tell you that for sure.
Also , the keyword is support, which means assistance. Its not meant to be the only money provided or necessary to raise children. But then here in America, I often think how nice it is for my ex to be living and paying her bills and my children's bills with my child support and never having to get a job herself to contribute to the financial needs of our children.

Hi Sargenta... This may not even pertain to you since you live in the UK but here in the States it depends on where you live and what kind of money the parent is making in their employment . Here they take a percentage of your income. Now if persay the parent is getting assistance from the state such as Human Resources or the Department of Public Aid the government decides what each household receives. I'm sorry I couldn't be any further help since you live elsewhere. have a good day.

This Yankee judge said, I TOLD you to pay child support, where i come from people DO what judges say,
since i am a Southerner,I stood up and said.My God.don't tell me your a Yankee? he turned red.He said i will make you pay to get DNA testing.i said NO.i wanted pay for it.the county paid.i didn't. the baby wasn't mine.i wish to God she was though since i love her.i still acted like daddy and bought her a lot of things.took her out Halloween .helped her financially .the real father had moved ..the judge comes up with a price,it depends on the state and the state of mind of the Judge, and how much the man makes, if the man makes a million dollars a year then thats reflected in the amount of child support payments .if the man is on disability then the child gets like 25 dollars a week .where i come from.
and your right ,when you have children and there in need, then of course you might try to cheat a little to get your children what they need, i dont blame the lady at all to try to have a better life for there children,My dear mother told me once .even thought she and Dad had enough money.that she said she would steal food if her children were hungry, Good luck to you

She gets £60 a week for the children, but that is not all she will get, her rent will be paid, council tax reduced, free prescriptions, school meals free etc etc. So if you add all that up it is a fair amount.
I'm not saying life is easy, nor that money is plentiful, its not, but you know a lot of us are scared to have babies as we cannot afford them and pay our own way in life. It's really sad that the father passed away, but the father should have paid in for life assurance to make sure his wife and babes did not have to worry so much. My father died when I was young - he paid in for pensions and so on to make sure his family never had to live in poverty if he died when we were still young.
It is not down to the state to give everyone a comfortable , cash rich life, we have to make our own plans. The state is there to provide the very basic needs - and that is what they are doing: providing a subsistance level of benefits.
Not a great quality of life I agree, but if you want that you have to make a lot of sacrifices and work 12 hours plus a day.

In America, it's 20% of the father's salary.
Depends on how you look at that if it's fair or not. I feel it's unfair because my ex-husband makes very little money.
But, if your ex makes a lot of money - then it could be more than fair.
Like so many things in life - things just aren't fair.
And when you talk of people cheating the system - remember a lot of guys cheat the system also. Many get paid cash on the side so they don't have to pay a percentage.

I don't know how it works in your country, but here it's a certain % of daddy's salary. So, if he doesn't make much, that monthly amount will be low. You can't bleed a turnip.
Oh, he's dead...that changes everything. Here we have life insurance. The widow would live off his wealth insurance, etc. If he had none, she would probably be on welfare. Your system is different than ours, that's why it matters what country you are in.

If pounds, must be British. Well you folks in Britain voted for universal health care. Vote it out.
One thing people should understand. There is not enough monies in the world to go around and support every one whether they work or not. Not enough, not enough. I have never seen written in stone the term Human Rights. It's my right for the government to support me. People today always blame someone else. I agree, don't get me wrong, there are people who need help, who cannot support themselves. They need help. However there are also people who want and get who should be working for it.
Again I will say, there is not enough monies to go around when all are standing with their hands out.
You, in Britian and I, in the US, have enjoyed a time never seen before. Check it out. It is gradually going back the way it came. Sorry to say.
We, the people have brought it on ourselves. Do we deserve what is coming? Can't/won't say. Is it going to get worse? Again, sorry to say, Yep. How do you fight it? Get involved. Lady can't feed and clothe her three children. Help her.

They are getting my hard earned money for nothing.
Anyone who wants children makes an informed decision or if not they make a reckless mistake either way why should I pay taxes for other peoples children in the first place?

I thought it all depends on how much the one paying child support earns. Next time tell her to mate with a rich person
