If your waist is 36, than I would go with a size 36 swimsuit.
If you want a good deal on your "swimming trunks" check out www.swimoutlet.com

You gotta try on different suits to see what you like the best. All sizing and styles are different. I have a 34w and would wear a 30 training suit. It depends on how you want it to fit? In general, I'd say go a size smaller...32 or a 34.

well im sure you know for raceing you want them tight, so id go maybe to a 34. jammer or speedo?
for a jammer id go 36
for a speedo id go a 34
but id try a 32-40 on just to see which you like best.
