I mostly go on the comp for only music purposes to make a mixtape CD, usually. I've crashed my comp more times than I can remember, I guess downloading viruses by accident from what I've been told, although I had people tell me you can tell if it's a virus because the song you downloaded won't play. Anyway, everybody's been telling me macs are used for home/ family use so they are more protected from viruses/spyware than my Sony Vaio w/ a ViewSonic screen (which are like companys comps) I really don't know, can anybody please give me some advice and tell me the pros and cons of owning a mac comp?

Also, what is the best comp to buy, if it's not the mac comp?

The security of your computer is what you make of it. Downloading files off of peer to peer networks is a good way to unknowningly download viruses. While there are many viruses for Windows, there are many viruses and exploits for Macs. Windows has a higher number, but you have to take into account it also has a larger user base which makes it a larger target.

Macs are just as much for company use as they are for personal use, just like a Sony Vaio is a good home computer.

Pros:
-While they have exploits and viruses, they do have fewer than Windows
-Clean look
-Most application types have a Mac application to fit your need (i.e. you can find email programs, office programs, browser programs, file sharing programs, etc for your Mac)

Cons
-Some applications you may need won't have a Mac version
-Smaller user base
-Fewer games (if you play games it is a con, otherwise not one)

Honestly how I would decide is by making a list of the applications you want to use and seeing if they have a version for the Mac or an alternative application that does the same function for the Mac. Once you have this list, make a judgement on what you see, you may be willing to make compromises or you may not be. In the end only you will know if it fits for you.

the best way to make this decision is to go to the Internet and learn about mac pros and cons and than do the same for other. Once you educate yourself more you will have a better understanding of your needs.
Also, you might want to look into the the new Vista I found it great for music lovers. Good Luck

The only con is that if your a gamer you have to go the mac store and look there but then again if you go there you can ask the helpful and friendly staff for help and look at the way cooler features and products apple have released including the iphone and the ipod and other great products and maybe you can pick up apple TV or other cool things bought to us by apple.

Macintosh computers are harder to get software for, and yes, there are viruses out there that will infect your Mac. Just be careful where you surf, and use a good firewall, such as ZoneAlarm, and a browser like Firefox.

Pro: they look pretty.
Con: You can't get software for them. Expensive to repair.False sense of security ...there are many MAC virsuses out there that Apple users stick their heads in the sand about.
