David Gilmour never "replaced" Syd. He was bought in to preform live with teh band but he was never intended to replace Syd. Syd was meant to stay in the band, along with David and they were in the band together for a couple of months before Syd was kicked out for his eratic behaviour.

one of the most under-rated guitarists of our time: david gilmour.......the most INCREDIBLE tone and feel out of anyone. ...i wasn't aware that he replaced syd, though.
