I am such a noObie at this so my question maybe too general but here goes: I want to do automation outside of microsoft office and truly don't understand what I can cannot do with VBA. Can I even use VBA for other automation tasks and where can I find information on starting. Any insight or links would be greatly appreciated.

It would be helpful if we knew what kind of automation tasks you want to perform.

Personally, I've found very little that I can't do with VBA, and what little I can't do, I can usually do with batch files that I can then get VBA to write.

Haven't found a way to automatically print PDF files to the default printer in a distributed application... FTPing is kind of hard... you can't make the current application overwrite itself with a different copy... I haven't been able to figure out how to send emails without going through Outlook...

That's about it. That's about all I can think of that I've ever tried to automate and was not able to do using VBA (usually in MS Access).
