"carbon offsets" from himself? Ah yes, I want to 'offset' my cow's flatulence by paying some kid in Uraguay to plant a tree. Oh, wait--don't PLANTS GIVE OFF CO2???? So how is THAT helping?

No $hit Jim--and people breathe o2 and exhale c02--Gore claims c02 is BAD for the environment- and wants you to buy carbon offsets which is basically paying for someone to plant a C02 MACHINE-jack@$$--perhaps you need to learn to read the question before being such a smart@$$!

Thanks King George-my mistake..... thumbs up to you!

So the question still remains--how is buying 'carbon 'credits' from AL GORE going to help (anyone but AL GORE?) He is using more energy than a small city himself--planting a tree in a 3rd world country would only take in a tiny fraction of c02 and would offset nothing, Not to mention--MAN IS NOT CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING!

Thanks arwenlotr2--but I did mistype--trying to do too many things at one time....that portion was MY fault! The point I wanted to make was c02 is ESSENTIAL to life!

According to http://www.humanevents.com/blog-detail.php?id=13603, the name of the company is Generation Investment Management.

It's incredible that you can put money into your own company, and thereby into your own pocket, and get a tax write-off and it's ok to use 20 times the coal-based power that the average home uses.

One big problem though. Plants take CO2 and make Oxygen, so while mostly symbolic, paying some kid to plant a tree would help a little.

By the way, when Al Gore went to Congress to talk about Global Warming, a republican asked him if, since Al Gore is such a firm believer that CO2 will kill us all, would he bring his power consumption down to the average level within one year. He totally dodged the question, and refused to commit. That should tell every one right off where he REALLY STANDS.

Plants absorb CO2 and give off O2.

Idiot.

EDIT:

I'd rather be a smart one any day than a dumb one. CO2 is ABSORBED by plants, if you reread your own dumb question, then you will realize that you indicated that CO2 is given off by plants. You got that a little bit backward.

As for CO2 being bad for the environment, the fact is that CO2 absorbs heat energy and does contribute to global warming. There is no debating that fact. The debate is whether or not we are contributing to the measured, continuing increase in CO2 levels. So which is the bigger risk? We scale back on a potential hazard, establish a cleaner, sustainable energy policy, and create new jobs for environmental innovation and energy creation, even though global warming was inaccurate. Or do nothing and global warming kills millions due to rising sea levels? I dunno, seems pretty clear cut to me.

You're still an idiot.

Its pretty sad that people are so prepared to defend their party that they don't realize that Al Gore is the biggest hypocrite on the face of the earth. Let's not forget that a volcano can give off more co2 in one eruption than all the factories on earth can put together in one year. And he failed to mention in his famous movie that co2 has been following temperatures on earth, not temperatures following co2. It's all lies and scandle. People refuse to see the truth sometimes. I'm sorry for whatever stupid idiots out there insult you.

Hi clk... I think Jim was referring to your sentence, "Oh, wait--don't PLANTS GIVE OFF CO2????"

He was trying to point out that there is a mistake in this sentence. Plants give off Primarily O2 by exchanging CO2 for O2. Your sentence says "...don't PLANTS GIVE OFF CO2????..."
The answer is no, plants do not give off CO2, they give off O2.
Thanks
