Don't let someone become priority in your life, when you are just an option in their life.

You must create your own priorities irrespective of others !!

That is probably generally true, but there is also a place for an exception. You should always be the most important person to yourself and you should never lose sight of that. However (don't you just love that word?) there are millions of people who operate perfectly well and fulfill their dreams and hopes by being an option to other people.

Let me give you several examples of how this can work ... a person is running to become President of the United States. In the process of the political race they will have dozens of people around them who are really fairly optional, but the candidate is the priority. These secretaries and advisors are not the key and really quite expendable, the one person who is the candidate is the key and is the only priority. Getting them elected is all that matters and if a person has to become less of a person, then it has to happen.

In a major corporation, a secretary, a book keeper, a janitor, a parking lot attendant, a security officer ... they are all optional yet they work within a system where perhaps only a few people are the real priorities. All of these little people work to ensure that the big people are successful. In that way they serve and yet they are also taken care of. It sounds a little feudal where obligations are exchanged, but that's the way it works.

Finally, when you go to work in any service industry, remember "the customer comes first!" You will not have a job very long if you don't remember that.

I couldn't have put it better myself, and I am never short of opinions! I believe the only priority in your life should be your children if you have them, or family if not. Partners/husbands/wives etc. come into our lives, sometimes for a short time, sometime for the long haul (if it's the latter, you're very lucky), but ultimately, no-one who truly loves us would expect to be a priority. If there was something that was really important to my other half (if I had one!) I
wouldn't expect them to give it up for me. Being with someone is about compromise so you don't have to prioritise, that's just my opinion.

Only love those who love you back or your wasting your time!
but don't asume someone don't love you ask!

All people in ones life should be a bonus if you want to make your bonsu a priority the good for you! don't do something just because your not getting the same in return. do what YOU want to do and if that is loving someone who don't love you back then do that!
But you will find out more more and more peeps love you when you do that!

I understand what you are saying. However sometimes those people that are just an option in your life is only because they are needy. Such as young children, "teenagers", disabled people, etc. These people don't have the ability to prioritize. Does that mean that you just neglect them and think only of yourself. I don't think so. And if you do then you most probably always just were concerned about yourself.

Do what you feel like, you only get one life. if someone elses happiness makes you happy then do your best for them. but you could be happier still if the same level of affection is shown back to you. unless your into being trampled on. some people like that and thats thier right too. don't worry if people think your a loser for doting on someone who doesn't care about you. if thats the kind of person you want to be you go for it. sometimes though if you take a step back, and be a bit more independant, that person suddenly values you more again.

In romantic relationships I totally agree. In friendships I totally agree.

However, I would have to make an exception for certain family relationships, especially those between parents and their kids. It's kind of in the nature of children (teenagers especially) to try to distance themselves from their parents and gain independence, but that doesn't mean that their parents should stop being there for them as unconditionally as they ever were. If a lover treats you in this uncaring way, ditch them, but not your child.

if that person becomes or not a priority does not depend on what you think but what you want. Try not to control those things, just live.

It would probably work both ways in a mutual way, it has to!
When you think of it, it's just right to think that anyone is an opinion to you. priority is your decision, not anyone Else's.

Does the same apply to a school teacher and failing pupil or a parent and their child?
Depends on the circumstances, if it's a lover or partner then no.
