LUCIFER...not Satan...nor any of the other little tag names....*shakes head in dismay*
Lucifer is a Latin word meaning "light-bearer" (from lux, lucis, "light", and ferre, "to bear, bring"), a Roman astrological term for the "Morning Star", the planet Venus. The word Lucifer was the direct translation of the Greek eosphoros ("dawn-bearer"; cf. Greek phosphoros, "light-bearer") used by Jerome in the Vulgate, having mythologically the same meaning as Prometheus who brought fire to humanity. In that passage, Isaiah 14:12, it referred to one of the popular honorific titles of a Babylonian king; however, later interpretations of the text, and the influence of embellishments in works such as Dante's The Divine Comedy and Milton's Paradise Lost, led to the common idea in Christian mythology and folklore that Lucifer was a poetic appellation of Satan. Originally, he was personified as a male figure bearing a torch, Lucifer had almost no legend, but in poetry he was often herald of the dawn.

The origin of the Lucifer myth of Christianity is a sequence of mistranslations and mis-associations.
The Lucifer of Roman religion however is the bearer of light, where the root of His name is "Lux" meaning light and "Ferre" a verb meaning to bear. Lucifer is known to be the child of Aurora, where They act in conjunction to bring forth the dawn.
Many times the role of Lucifer was attributed to another deity, but not in the way of bringing the light of the dawn. Such as Diana Lucifera, where the Moon bears the light of the Sun and in myth/theory has the ability to bestow blessings, enlightenment, insanity, or curses.
Hellenic religion has a similar character known as Phosphoros.

Lucifer was actually the most beautiful angel in Heaven. He thought he was like God or better than Him and he wanted all the angels to follow him and not God. He was banished from Heaven as was 1/3 of the angels and sent to Hell.

Lucifer was Gods "right hand" angel. He turned against God and gathered an army of angels to oppose God in hopes of being an equal to God. God cast him and all his followers down to hell. Lucifer is what is commonly thought of as the Devil.

I remember hearing somewhere that Satan was based off Satan-ikas, an ancient indian man who had different beliefs from the other indians (his beliefs included karma, being against killing animals, etc), so they considered him evil. I'm not sure if this helps you or not, so.. uh.. good luck!
