Okay I have to write the beginning of a story about a room that has been empty for a long time. I have to write about whats in it and why it has been left for so long.

I've got a few ideas but I'm finding it difficult to write about them, I often find it easy if I'm given a sentence to start with and then write from that.

The ideas I have so far is a woman in a hostel and she always hears sounds from the room next door but never sees anyone go in or out and then when she finally knocks on the door theres no one there it's empty etc etc

or a girl who's house she's living in has been in the family for centuries and there is a room that she's not allowed to go in and then she does etc etc

but i would really appreciate any sentence starters or ideas of what I could write on or ways I could improve the ideas I already have. Sorry, I'm making it a bit complicated... anywaaay!!!!!!!!! C H E E R S !

How about a room that hasn't been touched as it belonged to a child that died & the parents don't go into it & have left it just as it was the day she died?

Both your ideas are a bit corny and well used. Go for something a bit more original. Maybe a room in a old house that a family have just brought and if they put stuff in the room the next day all the stuff is gone.
I'm no writer, But i do think you should try and be original.
Good luck. Let us know if you ever make it as a writer. That will shut me up.

how about you get a house built from scratch you hire buiders and the sort to build it when you move in its exactly to the plans you made. youre all happy in this house for years youre daugter grows up and you go away for the wkend leaving her to house sit and she finds a loose panel somewhere in the house finds some thing bizzare (computers in another language)/bad (of course bodies/parts)/worrying (a room made for rituals)/fantasy(leads to mytical world unicorns and such) which ever one you choose you could have it so the daugter investigates the dad and puts the family under pressure the marriage is about to fall apart because of daughters behaivour so on so forth so eventually you have a part where daughter finally breaks down 'dad your a spy' or 'dad your a muderer' or 'dad your (a some1 who does rituals)' or just runs away into the mythical world.
but the twist could be through the book you mention the builder still comes round is a friend of the family and because of the pressure the daughter is causing the mother has lent toward this builder start an affair or you could even have it so that the family catch the builder doing whatever, this room does, in the room. and it all his fault and maybe the builder could be killed by his own creation of whatever you decide to put in the room.

When my boyfriend's parents moved house, we helped, and we moved a really tall unit, which has been in that exact spot as long as i remember. Anyway, when it was moved, THERE WAS A DOOR BEHIND IT!!!! it was so wierd! But it just lead to his parents room, and it turned out the wardrobe in their room stopped me from seeing it from the other side. It was wierd, but it had been left there from when they built an extention onto the house. (true story)

But seriously, how wierd would it have been if the door led to a secret room?

When we moved into our new to us, but very old house, after a while we got the impression that it was bigger on the outside than inside. When we started to investigate, we found that a door had been covered over by a large fixed bookcase. When this was removed we found a hidden door to an unknown room which could not have been entered for many years...................
over to you, use your imagination. good luck.

I really like your idea but that storyline has been used already in many stories, books and films. People might not appreciate it.

How about hidden treasure/family heirlooms discovered years later in an attic or basement?
