On dec 19/2006 I hired a licensed contractor to remodel my kitchen with new granite. It is already March 26/2007 and he has not finished. Some of its done. My problem is that I thougth he was going to be honest and I paid him always with cash and I have paid him all the money he asked for.... He does not return my calls anymore and he has not finished the job.
WHAT DO I DO?

Hopefully you did not get scammed, but NEVER pay for services like that with cash because there is no way to prove that you paid if they do not give you a receipt. Checks and receipts provide you with documentation. If this contractor is from a particular company, take pictures of your work that has been completed and contact the company to see if you can rectify the situation. Hopefully there is a legitimate reason why he hasn't returned your calls (without him being dead, of course).

Best wishes...

Rule of thumb is to NEVER pay a contractor until the job is complete, the most to give is 50% upfront for supplies. Having stated that, I only hope you have receipts. If he's an independent contractor, I'm afraid you did get scammed, but if he indeed is licensed, the least you can do is report him. Good luck

Never pay a contracter up front because you are walking away w.out a receipt. Best bet now is to call him and not scream in his machine. Tell him you would feel more comfortable if he would finish the job for you since he already started the work. Tell him it has not been easy on you living inside an unfinished house and to please call you back. You can pay him after the days work is through by the hour.
Chances are the bum needs more money and if you are clam will call you back. Next time get a receipt in writing w. his information on it so you can track him down easily.

File a complaint with the state contractors board. If he is a licensed contractor he is probably bonded and you can put an attachment on his bond. The Dept of Consumer affairs usually handles this in most states.

there's a sturdy risk of it. Sorry. If the doggies are actually not too some distance from you, that's advisable to e mail decrease back and tell them which you would be chuffed to p.c.. the doggies your self so which you will no longer ought to pay the fee. in the event that they agree then you definately could be ok. in the event that they write decrease back with a less costly or yet another answer regarding them delivery/bringing the doggies to then you definitely i'd propose you to no longer do it. There are lots of issues entering into the time of the internet regarding doggies and scams. in simple terms the different day there became a question on right here with regards to the comparable component and the e mail they have been given became with regards to the comparable aside from the fee. that's advisable to do a sprint greater analyze on the folk and what they're attempting to do. sturdy success.

I hope you got receipts for what you paid him. If he's licensed, check with the city or the state, there should be an agency to handle complaints like that. Or take him to small claims court. But, if you don't have any receipts, you might be out of luck.

Contact the Better Business Bureau. Contact your state's consumer protection agency and file a complaint.
You can sue the contractor. If you believe he deliberately took your money and defrauded you, you may be able to file a criminal complaint against him. Talk to your county district attorney.

Good Luck!
Hope you had him provide a receipt for every bit of cash you paid. Otherwise, in the eyes of the court, you have paid him nothing!
Your next logical step is to seek legal counsel.
